Weekly Essentials: Oils to help you sleep

We all know how feeling tired can make us less productive but it's astonishing to see how much of an impact having a restful nights sleep can have on our performance and attitudes.


Sleep does impact our over all health and essential oils are a great way to improve sleep. Essential oils are capable of relaxing our minds and bodies when inhaled or applied to our skin. The essential oils that contain the compound linalool helps calm and soother the central nervous system. Though research is limited, some have suggested smelling a few drops of essential oils at night can be sedating which intern helps us to sleep. These same oils usually have the effects to reduce stress and anxiety which affects our over all mental health and clarity.



It is said that making a blend is the best way to utilize essential oils for sleeping but here are a list of single oils and below we will refer the blends:

  • Roman Chamomile essential oil

  • Sweet Marjoram essential oil

  • Clary Sage essential oil

  • Cedarwood essential oil

  • Vetiver essential oil

  • Valerian essential oil

  • Frankincense essential oil

  • Sandalwood essential oil



Here are a list of blends you can use and be careful not to add too much essential oils as that can be toxic to your nervous system.


Night Night

Lavender and bergamot essential oil have a great effect on our nervous system and both are used for the effects of calming anxiety and relaxing the body and mind. Use this blend for a good nights rest.


Sleep Tight

Vetiver and sandalwood are grounding essential oils which gives a sense of connection and balance. Diffused with lavender and chamomile essential oils they offer a great scent and sedative properties.

  • 2 drops Lavender

  • 2 drops Sandalwood

  • 2 drops Roman Chamomile

  • 2 drops Vetiver

Tranquility

Smelling sandalwood you get a sense of tranquility but diffusing with lavender and vetiver alleviates worry, fear, stress and all the anxiety that live can throw on us.

  • 3 drops Lavender

  • 2 drops Sandalwood

  • 1 drop Vetiver


Kid-Friendly Diffuser Blend

We must take precaution when using oils around our kids and pets but this recipe is a safe diffuser blend for children.

  • 2 drops Cedarwood

  • 2 drops Orange

  • 2 drops Lavender

Calming

These essential oils have calming and soothing properties that can help you drift off to lala land.

  • 3 drops Ylang Ylang

  • 2 drops Roman Chamomile

  • 1 drop Lavender



Sleep in Peace

Renowned for its peaceful effects and therapeutic properties Frankincense with the calming oils of chamomile and cedarwood gives an ultra-relaxing diffuser blend recipe.

  • 2 drops Frankincense

  • 2 drops Cedarwood

  • 2 drop Roman Chamomile

Need Sleep

This blend is great if you have issues falling asleep.

  • 3 drops Cedarwood

  • 3 drops Lavender

  • 2 drops Vetiver

Safety Guidelines

Diffuse 30 minutes to 1 hour at a time as a safety precaution because you don't want to create a sensitivity to the oils, therefore use them in moderations. Never use undiluted oils directly on your skin but dilute in a carrier oil such as sweet almond or coconut. Essential oils are natural but powerful and it is best to inform yourself on the oils you intend on using. Some oils may work for one person and not the other therefore test them by purchasing small quantities first.
