Lavender is one of those essential oils you often hear about, I think my first experience with lavender was hearing how the french used it to wash their laundry. Or something to that effect but mainly used for making things smell good is what I was mostly aware of so it was one of the first oils I purchased and used it for my cleaning products.
There after, I started reading the great benefits of lavender and there are many but one of the best is that it calms your nerves without sedating you. Some of the other benefits includes reducing :

The International Journal of Psychiatry in Clinical Practice evaluates how effective Silexan might be for patients with different anxiety disorders. Silexan is a lavender-oil preparation available in 80-milligram (mg) gelatine capsules.
The team found that Silexan had an anxiolytic, or anxiety-reducing, effect on patients with generalized or subsyndromal anxiety within 2 weeks.

Inhaling lavender aroma improves sleep quality, depression, and stress levels in older adults. It was also found that lavender essential oils have a beneficial effect on insomnia and depression in female college students.
How to use:
As I am not a doctor and have no knowledge on how to use lavender essential oil orally I will not touch on that subject but if that's the method you feel would be best I would suggest doing some research.
However, I do recommend using these methods as they are the way in which I have used essential oils for their benefits. Inhalation of lavender essential oil through aromatherapy, olfaction (sense of smell), for 3 minutes to be effective at minimum to receive the effects. Diffusing is one of the most popular methods of using essential oils and you can easily find a good diffuser on our site or such sites as amazon and Walmart.
Taking a bath and adding your essential oils, in this case, lavender will help to make a calm and relaxed environment plus you get to soothe the aches and pains of your tired and sore muscles. You can also use lavender essential oil on your body but make sure you've diluted it first with a carrier oil and then adding it to a roller bottle and then using on your wrist, back of your ears or neck.
